Saturday - Outside and cars day

Today is Saturday and on my weekly schedule this morning is spent sweeping off the porches, dusting off the cob webs, cleaning out the cars and any other outside stuff that needs our attention. Though since it's 35o outside, and I'm the only one home...I'm skipping the tasks until later on today..if it warms up. This morning I'm off to get my hair trimmed then will return to work some more on my Home Management Journal. I got the fun part done yesterday, I'll post pictures in the next day or so.

I wish you God's peace,

Off to work

My heart throb and my best friend.

My dear husband has to stand duty today. We have been very blessed with my husband being active duty Marine. Part of the job is having to stand duty. He will be there for 24 hours. I miss him already and wish I could "hang out" with him since it's Saturday. I pray that God protects him today and that his "duty" is completed with out much incidence.

Peace to you.

Today is Baking and Paperwork Day

As I am learning that all homemakers have some sort of schedule and either planner or Home Management Journal to keep them on track, I have dug up a schedule I used to use and re-vamped it.

Today is Baking and Paperwork Day! I will do some of my cooking for the next week, filing, and working on my Home Mangement Journal. As I work on it I will post the pictures. For some great ideas just do a search on Home Mangement Binder or Journal. Be forwarned though, you will spend hours reading and seeing MANY different ideas, including formal "store bought" type. (Trust me I get lost when I get to blogging, so set your timer and heed the bell.)

My binder is a 1 " white w/clear pockets and I am making each section. Progress not Perfection!

God's peace,
Dee

Cooking from scratch

Many people ask me what do I eat, since I can't eat dairy, wheat or sugar. My response has always been "I cook A LOT!" Our meals have evolved around going back to the basics...whole foods. I also eat very little refined flours, again...whole foods. I don 't miss anything, and we have noticed we are able to really taste the flavor of foods. With out heavy cream sauces and processed foods that are ladden with sugar, our taste buds become accustomed to the flavors of real food, food the way God intended it to be.

My family eats this way most of the time (minus my 18yo... eek gads!) I plan all of our meals, mainly dinners and weekend meals together. The other meals I have a list of foods that I typically eat and I make sure they are included in my grocery day shopping.

I found a great article this morning on cooking from scratch. This may help give some ideas for those of you who would like to cook healthier but don't want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen. I cook 3 meals a day almost everyday, but I'm trying to get back to cooking a few things in one day and freezing them. Not meals, just the extras like rolls, grains (rice, millet, buckwheat, etc) and any treats for the family for the week (homemade blueberry muffins, cookies etc.) I hope this article is gives some tips for you!

Happy New Year

I hope you have a New Year full of God's amazing Grace.

I made a different version of Hoppin' John for dinner, complete with Black eye peas, rice, and collards. At the last minute I added Sauerkraut as a side...not a good thing to spring on your family who has never eaten it! LOL (I like it)

Menu:

Spicy Black-Eyed Peas and Rice (with Ground Turkey)

Homemade cornbread, from scratch

Steamed collards

Sauerkraut (won't do that again from a can!)

Spicy Black-Eyed Peas and Rice

1 (14 1/2 oz) can diced tomatoes with juice

1 cup tomato sauce

1 (15 oz) can black-eyed peas, rinsed and drained

2. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently.

3. Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 10 min our until heated

4. This is a versitle recipe, feel free to use different seasonings or beans.

I added some ground turkey (we don't eat pork), used dry beans that I had already cooked, and also used some fresh Rosemary that's in our kitchen window.
